Phil's Story
I was diagnosed with UC about 4 years ago (2004) right after I quit smoking. I had been a heavy smoker for about 30 years (I am now 48 years old). I know now that nicotine may help with UC syptoms. Anyway, after about 6 months on prednizone and asacol, I was fine for about 2 years. I only took asacol as remission therapy.
About a year ago things got pretty bad and I was back on prednizone as well as asacol. Everytime I tapered down off the prednizone I would have a severe flare up and have to increase the dose of prednizone again. This went on for about 10 months and my doctors started to talk about surgery if I could not get off the prednizone.
At that point my doctor suggested that I try Imuran therapy (75 mg daily) and Colazal and it has been a fantastic success. Seven months now and I'm in great shape. Don't even know I have UC. No side effects at all. Feel Great! I would recommend Imuran to anyone. It's worth a try.
