Mary Ellen's Story

I want to report that I was diagnosed with UC in May. Later the doctor told me it was more likely Crohn's disease. This was done by a colonoscopy. I was having terrible problems with asacol, making the bleeding worse. I decided to try the natural route. This is what is working for me now:

I take natural vitamin and mineral supplements such as:

400 units natural vit. E
25,000 vit. A
1-2000 vit. C
50 mg. zinc
a natural multivitamin/multimineral/herbal supplement
(I take 2 of these each am and 2 in pm)

I take 400 mg magnesium each evening before bedtime
I take 99 potassium
I make a shake of soy protein powder mixed with
  • 4-herb tea (essiac tea) 1/4 cup am & pm
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1/4 cup grape juice
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon colloidal silver
(I wash down my vitamins with the shake)

I also take liquid calcium with magnesium, 1 tablespoon in am & 1 tablespoon before bedtime.
I also take liquid joint maintenance, 1 tablespoon daily.
(this contains glucosamine, chondroitin, & MSM.

I also take an extra 1000 mg MSM am & another pm.
I take Digestabs, 1 am, 1 pm.
I take acidolphilus, 1 am , 1 pm.
I take Bromelain, 1 am.
I take slippery elm, 1 am
I take Burdock, 1 pm.

I take a chlorella, 1 am, 1 pm.
I also take liquid Geritol, 1 tablespoon in afternoon, so not to interfere with calcium absorption. The liquid Geritol is the only iron supplement that will work for me. I tried taking the pill form and my blood levels just won't come up with it.

These are the things I use and these were the only things that helped get my UC or crohn's under control. You couldn't talk me into giving them up for a prescription drug. Also, what helped me was giving up anything refined: no refined white flour, sugar ( I use only a little honey in my baking or tea) no boxed anything, like Mac & Cheese or rice a roni, no white rice, no boxed cakes, pies, cookies, candy. If I want a cake or cookie, I bake it myself with whole wheat or barley or oat flour, and use honey as the sweetener. I am lactose intolerant so I use plain soy milk when a recipe calls for milk or cream. And, against common medical wisdom, I eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables, or steamed. Never out of a can! Buy them and cook them yourself. Only use a little olive oil, after cooking, if you want to add oil. No boxed cereals.
Watch out for anything that has "high fructose corn syrup" in it--it is deadly to anyone with UC or CD!!
Eat plain foods, simply prepared.
Eat poultry or fish most of the time and meat occasionally. NO PORK! No Shell fish! (too many bacteria, viruses, lead, mercury, etc, not worth it!)
This helped me, and I hope it will help others.
You just have to decide you want to get well and take your health into your own hands.
Mary Ellen
