Erica's Story

Hey, I'm 22 and was diagnosed July 2008. The first time I noticed it I was on holidays in 2006 in England (I live in Melbourne), and I was on the toilet in the middle of the night, scared beyond anything I ever thought I could imagine. *There was lots of gross here, blood etc*

Since getting back, all they could find was anemia. They did bone scrapings (on my hip) and all this other stuff before they finally did a colonoscopy and gastroscopy. I'm thankful they found it. I'm on and off pentasa, 500mgx3 x twice daily. This is to go with all this other stuff i have to take: suppositories, iron pills, vit c, magnesium, this stuff for muscle problems (cos i'm anemic still), and all this stuff to make you less likely to get dehydrated.

I've cut out everything that could cause problems in my diet, but it doesn't leave much to eat and I often end up eating protein shakes and drinking heaps of water. I hate that there's not much anyone can do about this kind of thing. I hate when people think it's like IBS and tell me to suck it up. It's a real disease, like diabetes or heart disease, people dont tell them to suck it up or tell them its in their head. Its been a year after being diagnosed and I hate to think life will suck like this forever, but I know it will go into remission and it'll be ok.
