Tracy's Story
My name is Tracy and I am an ulcerative colitis sufferer. In October 2010 diagnosed with UC (put on Prednisone), and the side-effects were – put on 30 kg in two weeks, pitted edema, couldn’t walk. Put on Hydrocortisone – side effects; swelled veins in back of eyes and nearly went blind. Severe swelling everywhere - same as Prednisone. Hospitalised 17 times in 14 months. Seeing one doctor after another. Last hospital visit was 6 months ago 2011; nearly died. Was put on Remicade – side effects; doubled blood pressure, headaches, blurred vision, swelled painful joints and other side-effects the worst being the return of anxiety attacks from years before. I have all the usual UC symptoms; bleeding, diarrhea, anemia, painful red-spots on legs known as EN (Erythema nodosum). There has been so much more in the history, but concentrating on now – I am on Mercaptopurine and more recently Pentasa tablets. I take vitamins to compensate for their loss due to UC. In Dr Sandra Cabot’s Liver and Bowel Cleansing diet she recommends protein powder for people with severe UC. I have found that one of the worst things I can do is to get constipated.
What I’ve done is to add protein powder with All Bran – morning and night, and it’s thickened up my motion so that I can go out of the house without having diarrhea. My gastroenterologist said recently this is the best thing that I could have done, and not to stop having it. It has made a large difference in my life which I want to share with anyone who is suffering like I am – to make their life better. The protein power I buy is Whey Protein Powder from the Health Food Store. It has made such a huge difference – please for your own sake try this method as it really works - my desire is to help others, and I wish for everyone to get well.
